Property Overview

A chic, tranquil and cosy mountain hotel with glorious views at 1600m above sea level

The Kumaon sits on the on a ridge in the shadow of the sacred Nanda Devi Range, offering spectacular views from all parts of the property. It’s understated luxury and minimalistic décor puts the Himalayas in the forefront and everything else after it. Sitting in the cantilevered dining room or your deck awards a fantastic connection with the snow topped mountains.

Designed by architect Pradeep Kodikara (who has worked extensively under Geoffrey Bawa and inspired by his tropical modernism design theme) and Jineshi Samaraweera The Kumaon offers its guests an unparalleled experience of the Kumaon valleys and lush surrounds. There are 10 luxury suites, a library, a sun lounge and a gourmet restaurant, built unobtrusively to blend with the natural ambience. The materials have been sourced locally, keeping the interiors of the hotel simple and rustic with stones, bamboo, pinewood, and textiles. The copper and stone accessories for the chalets have been made by local artisans and all the woolen fabrics for beddings and furnishings are the work of weavers close by. Even the furniture has been designed made on-site. Large airy and glass walled rooms in all parts of the property, with straight lines and clean structure, sets this apart from the many other accommodations in this region.

The kitchen dishes out a mix of Kumaoni and international cuisine, made with seasonal produce procured from village farms nearby. There is special focus on the superfoods found locally. Think of Kumaon staples like black soybean daal with bhaang chutney.

Experienced therapists offer a massage, foot run and other rejuvenating treatments in the in-house spa.

The Kumaon has curated excellent experiences to discover the region, including hikes, treks and village trips. Picnics, waterfall hikes, ancient temples and stunning sunsets feature in these.
