Property Overview

Inspiring surrounds of rhododendron flowers and deep oak forests

Built in 1933 by a Sanskrit scholar and his polish wife, the home is now one of the best homestays in Kumaon, giving travellers a peak into a restful time amongst nature. 100 acres of untouched forests and an 80-year-old characterful house – it’s hard to pick what guests enjoy the most about Jilling Terraces. Perhaps, both. City fatigued travellers who want a quick detox and whimsical wanderers who like to linger long in destinations, both love this wonderful homestay in the heart of an oak and rhododendron forest.

Only 300km from the capital (about a 9-hour drive), the mountain retreat is also a perfect weekend getaway from Delhi to reboot, though you’ll never want to leave in just two days.  Travellers can’t stop wondering how this has stayed unexplored and off the radar, despite being on the popular weekend haunt, Kumaon. What leaves guests besotted is not just the views of Nanda Devi peak and the Himalayan range along its arms, but the tasteful and simple aesthetics of the home that leave you rich with wonderment and stories.

Fill your heart with stunning views and your soul nourished with local experiences and great food inspired from Kumaon’s homes. More so, enjoy the chill in the air dutifully warmed by a fireplace. We are sure it will warm the depths of your hearts as well.

Use Jilling Terraces to explore easy hikes around the property and the simple village life. Get those legs weary and come back to the comfy confines of the property at the end of the day.

About F & B Policy

All vegetables are sourced from local marginal farmers and the staff uses these organic seasonal vegetables and ingredients to prepare all the meals with a touch of local culture. Non vegetarian food is served usually at dinner. Specific requests can be communicated to the staff who are happy to accommodate eating habits. Dileep (property manager) usually checks with the guests with a couple of options for each meal. And just like a small family, everyone eats together in the dining hall of the homestay.

Water Policy

Jilling Terraces is fed by a spring water source. For years, all guests have been having this clean and true Himalayan water to drink and the same is used for cooking as well. On request, this can be boiled before serving. To help you with this, the property provides electric kettles in the rooms. Since this is a nature friendly property, plastic consumption is kept at bay. There is a limited stock of mineral water bottles that can be bought for the price, or guests can carry their own (as long as they take them back ☺ )
